Scrap Gold: Amazing Finds

Incredibly, people have found gold in some crazy places. One woman stopped at a garage sale, where an older lady was selling many years worth of accumulated costume jewelry that had long since gone out of style. The jewelry didn’t look fancy, nor was it well-displayed, in fact, the homeowner had it bagged up in small freezer bags, and priced by the lot for between a dollar and five dollars per bag. The woman bought all the bags of tangled jewelry, took them home, and eventually sorted them out, only to discover that she had found plenty of silver and even some gold. Overall, she spent about $15 and made just over $100 selling the gold and silver she had found, plus she was able to auction off some vintage pieces, eventually netting more than $200 in profit. That’s not a lot, but if you made $200 in profit from small finds each week, you would be bringing in more than $10,000 in extra income each year. It really does add up!

Another couple went on a weekend drive, visiting a few flea markets along the way. Among a tangle of jewelry, the woman found a necklace and ring linked together. The ring was stamped 10k, and the necklace was stamped 14k Italy. Altogether, the weight was over 15 grams fine. The lucky finder spent just $25 on the necklace and ring together, and made over $550 in profit. If you were to make $550 in profit on your finds every week, that would translate to an added income of more than $28,000 annually – a tidy sum, well worth the effort, to be sure.

In Ohio, a young woman found a cheap wooden jewelry box filled with a tangled mess of low grade silver chains, plus lots of other odds and ends. The fact that the box itself was cheaply made and had a “Made in China” sticker on the bottom did not deter her from looking a little further. Instead, she asked the lady at the flea market for a discount since the jewelry inside the box was such a mess. She paid $10 for the whole thing, took it home, and started sorting it out. As it turns out, the seller’s laziness netted the finder a total of $850. She found 14k gold plus some interesting vintage pieces that she auctioned off online – all in all, not bad for an afternoon of browsing! If you were to bring in $850 in second hand gold income each week, you might be able to quit your day job and focus on treasure hunting instead. That amounts to an annual $44,200.00 income – not too shabby!

These are only a few of the amazing stories people have told regarding jewelry and other pieces that they have found at rock bottom prices, then resold for a profit. Most people who make great finds on gold and silver on a regular basis don’t tell anybody their secrets, lest the word get out. Luckily, there are some tried and true tactics you can put to work on your own, that will let you make your own finds. Soon enough, you could be making hundreds or even thousands of dollars by simply finding bargains and selling them for a profit.
